Whether you are a tanning newbie or a seasoned pro, everyone needs a reminder of what NOT to do after having a spray tan.
From ‘what to wear’ to ‘how to wash’ and ‘what products to steer clear of’, we cover it all! Keep reading for our top tips on what NOT to do after getting a spray tan.
Pick the right underwear!
Wearing the right underwear during the spray tan is important but it is also important to pick the right underwear for AFTER your tan.
Avoid underwear that is too tight or that will rub on the skin as it can cause your tan to rub off (no one wants the dreaded visible panty lines or bra straps) so for the first 24 hours avoid those tight Victoria’s secret numbers and opt for a safe option, or you can even go commando since your mobile spray tan will be in your own home!
Ditch the tight clothes
Our mobile spray tans are bound to make you feel glamorous but a tight-fitting number will not leave you looking like a million dollars.
Wear loose-fitting, dark clothing after your spray tan (dark clothing is advisable as it will have the lowest chance of staining) and avoid anything tight-fitting that may rub on your skin. Yes, this is the perfect excuse to ditch that bra!
Many of us enjoy that silky smooth feeling after a shave, and you can still have this, if you are careful.
If you aren’t fussed about some hair then awesome! You don’t need to worry, but if you do still want to shave then you should try to shave with light pressure, using slow strokes and a sharp razor. Don’t use a dull razor as this can result in you having to go over the same area multiple times.
Your tan sits on the top layer of skin which gets worn away each time you shave, minimising this will make your tan last longer.
Say no to exercise!
I am giving you a free pass to say no to that workout or yoga session. Don’t even think of exercising for 12 hours after your spray tan, you want to avoid moisture at all costs.
No dishes for you tonight! That’s a workout, right!?
Remaining dry will help the tan develop on your skin flawlessly, avoid streaks or drips, and ensure it develops evenly.
Go make-up free
Most people don’t think that makeup can affect your spray tan, but it may skew the end results.
Using makeup or moisturiser straight after your spray tan can affect the colour or more tragically, lead to it being blotchy and uneven. If you need to apply any beauty products try to wait until at least 6-8 hours after your spray tan or ideally until after your shower.
Avoid chemicals and adhesive products
It should go without saying but products like fashion tape and bandages can strip your tan in the areas they are applied. Try to avoid these products if possible or risk an uneven tan.
Chemicals such as chlorine or products containing acids can also have adverse effects on your spray on tan, if one of your must have products contains acids then try to find a water-based alternative for when you are tanned.
Word on the street is that Dove shower products can also strip your tan, so you may want to steer clear of these just incase.
You should also try to avoid excessive oil-based products if you want your tan to last as long as possible.
Do NOT exfoliate
Exfoliation is the sworn enemy of a long lasting tan. Exfoliation removes the dead skin on the top layer of your skin, sounds good right? Noooo, that’s where your tan is!
