A Day in the Life of a Wild About Tan Mobile Spray Professional
When people hear “mobile spray tan technician”, they often picture someone swanning around with a spray gun, turning the world golden one person at a time. While that’s sort of true, there’s a lot more to it – from packing up what feels like half a salon into the car, to navigating the quirks of sat-nav, to chatting with the loveliest people while they stand in a pop-up tent in their living room.
Here’s what it’s really like behind the scenes…
The Morning Prep
The day starts with a quick check of the diary, a strong cuppa, and making sure the kit is ready to go. That means: spray gun? Check. Tent? Check. Tanning solutions? Check. Sticky feet, hairnets, barrier cream, spare towels… check, check, check.
Being mobile means you never quite know what the day will throw at you – it could be a bride-to-be, a group of friends off on holiday, or someone treating themselves to a midweek glow-up.
Life on the Road
Your car becomes your second home. You learn the art of parallel parking with a boot full of kit and the skill of finding your client’s house without relying entirely on sat-nav (which occasionally insists their street doesn’t exist).
The set-up is surprisingly quick: a pop-up tent, the right shade of solution for the client’s skin tone, and a little chat to put them at ease. In minutes, they’re bronzed, glowing, and usually grinning.
The Challenges
- Finding enough room to set up in tiny living rooms or kitchens
- Clients forgetting to exfoliate beforehand (we always notice!)
- British weather – getting caught in a downpour on the way back to the car with your kit isn’t glamorous
- Sharing laughs, stories, and sometimes even a cheeky cup of tea with clients
Why We Love It
It’s not just about changing skin tone — it’s about lifting someone’s mood, helping them feel their best, and adding a bit of sunshine into their day (even if it’s raining sideways outside).
And yes, we usually go home with a faint shimmer and the familiar scent of coconut lingering in the air — the badge of honour for a job well done.
